When a young woman joins PURPLE Girls, she isn't the only person becoming part of the BOW community. Parents and caregivers play an important role in helping participants get the most from their experience.
Blessing Our Women, Inc. created PURPLE Girls to provide girls and young women with mentorship, personal development, leadership opportunities, life skills, healthy-relationship education, exposure experiences, community service, meaningful conversations, and positive connections as they grow.

Welcome to PURPLE
Purpose. Understanding. Resilience. Power. Leadership. Unity. Empowerment.
PURPLE Girls is a mentorship and youth-development initiative of Blessing Our Women, Inc. The program is designed to support the whole young woman—not simply one challenge, one experience, or one area of her life.
Participants have opportunities to explore who they are, strengthen confidence, develop healthy relationships, improve communication and decision-making, build leadership and practical life skills, experience new environments, and think intentionally about their futures.
PURPLE Girls is not a domestic violence survivor program. BOW's history and expertise in survivor empowerment inform our commitment to prevention and healthy relationships, but PURPLE Girls is much broader.
Age-appropriate education about boundaries, personal safety, healthy and unhealthy relationships, dating violence prevention, digital safety, consent, and help-seeking is incorporated into a larger mentorship and developmental experience.
Two Programs. One PURPLE Foundation.
PURPLE Girls is intentionally divided into two developmental levels.
PURPLE Girls Junior
"Growing Her Confidence. Developing Her Voice. Preparing Her to Lead."
Junior focuses on building strong foundations through confidence, identity, communication, friendships, boundaries, decision-making, leadership, life skills, healthy relationships, service, and exposure to new possibilities.

"Preparing Her for What's Next."
Senior takes those developmental areas deeper as young women approach adulthood. The experience places greater emphasis on independence, personal standards, relationships, responsibility, leadership, financial readiness, education and career planning, decision-making, and preparation for life after high school.

Her Mentorship Should Grow With Her.
PURPLE Girls Senior isn't simply Junior with older participants. Both programs share the same PURPLE foundation, but the conversations, expectations, activities, responsibilities, and applications should reflect each participant's developmental stage.
Junior builds the foundation. Senior prepares her to apply it with greater independence.
This is why BOW places participants in the appropriate program level rather than using one youth program for every age.
What Your Young Woman Will Experience
She Won't Just Attend Sessions. She'll Have Experiences.
Depending on the program level, program year, and available opportunities, PURPLE Girls may include mentorship, developmental sessions, interactive workshops, H.E.R. Circles, guest speakers, leadership experiences, community service, educational and cultural exposure, career exploration, personal-development activities, special events, and signature PURPLE experiences.
Not every activity occurs every year, and individual experiences may vary based on scheduling, partnerships, funding, availability, and program level.

8 Pillars. One Whole-Girl Approach.
The PURPLE Girls experience is organized around eight developmental pillars that help BOW intentionally address different areas of a young woman's growth. Together, the pillars guide age-appropriate experiences that strengthen identity, relationships, decision-making, leadership, life preparation, personal growth, and future readiness.

Another Positive Adult in Her Corner.
PURPLE Mentors are not intended to replace parents or caregivers. They provide another positive connection within a structured youth-development environment.
Approved mentors may encourage participants, listen, model healthy communication and boundaries, reinforce positive decision-making, support goal development, participate in approved activities, and help young women recognize possibilities for themselves.
"Mentors guide. They don't take over."
PURPLE Mentors are expected to complete BOW's applicable application, screening, onboarding, training, agreements, and approval requirements before serving in an approved mentorship role.
Learn About PURPLE MentorshipWhat Mentors Are Not
A PURPLE Mentor is not your child's parent, therapist, attorney, medical provider, financial provider, disciplinarian, or replacement caregiver. Mentors should operate within the responsibilities and boundaries of the BOW mentorship program.
When a participant raises a concern outside the mentor's role, mentors are expected to follow BOW's established procedures for notifying appropriate program personnel, responding to safety concerns, and making or facilitating referrals when applicable.
H.E.R. Circles
A Space to Talk. A Space to Listen. A Space to Grow.
PURPLE Girls may include age-appropriate H.E.R. Circles as part of the developmental experience. These are structured opportunities for guided conversation, reflection, connection, communication, and personal growth.
Young people should be encouraged to participate, but BOW should not build the experience around forcing a participant to publicly disclose deeply personal information.

H.E.R. Circles within PURPLE Girls are part of the youth-development experience and should not be confused with BOW's separate adult survivor-centered H.E.R. Circles.
Healthy Relationships & Personal Safety
We Would Rather Teach Her Before She Needs the Lesson.
PURPLE Girls includes developmentally appropriate conversations about relationships and personal safety.
"A participant does not need to have experienced abuse to benefit from learning how healthy relationships should look and feel."
Learning Beyond the Room
Exposure Creates Possibility.
Young women need opportunities to see different environments, careers, educational pathways, cultures, businesses, professionals, leaders, and possibilities. Depending on available opportunities, PURPLE Girls experiences may include field trips, workplace visits, campus tours, cultural experiences, community service, and other approved exposure activities.
Exposure opportunities vary by program year, available partnerships, funding, and scheduling. BOW will communicate details about specific activities as they are confirmed.
