Survivors can seek help even when they are unsure about leaving and can discuss options and safety planning.

Abuse isn't limited to physical violence. A relationship may involve patterns of control, intimidation, threats, isolation, stalking, financial control, sexual coercion, digital monitoring, humiliation, manipulation, destruction of property, or other behaviors that interfere with someone's freedom or safety.
"I'm not sure" is enough reason to seek information.

Could Someone Be Monitoring This Device?
Phones, computers, tablets, email accounts, location services, shared cloud accounts, browsing history, and social-media accounts can sometimes reveal information about someone's activities.
If you believe another person may monitor your device, consider accessing sensitive information from a device or account they cannot access when it is safe to do so.
The National Domestic Violence Hotline provides specific guidance about technology and internet safety and warns that internet activity cannot always be completely erased.

Safety Planning Can Matter Before, During & After Leaving.
Leaving an abusive relationship can involve safety considerations unique to the individual. Rather than publishing a generic checklist that assumes everyone should take the same steps, BOW encourages visitors to work with a trained advocate to develop a safety plan appropriate to their circumstances.
The National Domestic Violence Hotline provides safety-planning resources, and Louisiana's statewide hotline can connect callers with local domestic violence programs.

BOW Does Not Operate an Emergency Shelter.
If you need emergency safe housing because of domestic violence, contact a domestic violence crisis provider.
New Orleans Area
In the New Orleans area, NOFJC's Mary Claire's Place provides emergency safe housing at a confidential location. NOFJC directs people seeking emergency shelter to call its 24/7 Crisis Hotline at 504-866-9554 for support and a shelter assessment.
Outside New Orleans
Outside the New Orleans area, call the Louisiana Statewide Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-888-411-1333 to connect with an appropriate local provider.
If You Need Legal Help
Legal Questions Are Common.
Domestic violence may involve questions about protective orders, custody, divorce, housing, employment, criminal matters, or other legal concerns. BOW can provide information and resource navigation where appropriate, but BOW does not provide legal representation unless expressly stated for a particular service.
In the New Orleans area, NOFJC assists survivors with protective orders in Orleans and Jefferson Parishes and works with legal-service partners on matters including divorce and custody.
